![]() ![]() About 75 to 100 deaf and hard of hearing football fans and their hearing friends enjoyed watching the Super Bowl Game at the El Guapo Mexican Cantina Sports Bar in the heart of Los Angeles on Sunday, February 4th. It was the 2nd time that WRAD hosted the Super Bowl party in that sports club and we had many television sets with closed captioning to watch the game between the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts. The management gave us a nice spacy room inside the club for us to socialize with others and to watch the game as well as ordering food and drinks. Bruce Gross, the CEO/ President of WRAD, Inc helped host the event with help of Reynaldo Llarena, the Vice President and Webmaster of WRAD. We had a Super Bowl pooling at the club and Merry Jo Clark was the winner of the $100 prize. Merry Jo is Reynaldo Llarena's wife. There were many hearing people at the sports bar and some wanted to meet and interact with the deaf. A few learned sign language while watching the game. We were also happy to see Marlee Matlin, the Oscar winner deaf actress on television signing the American anthem. Reynaldo Llarena and Bruce Gross agreed to have the Super Bowl party again at the same location next year for the 3rd time. It was a successful event and we can't wait to host another Super Bowl party again next year in 2008. Thanks to the following committee members who made the event possible- Bruce Gross, Chair, Mark Brudney, Assistant to Bruce, and Reynaldo Llarena who was the photographer for the WRAD website and helped coordinate the football pools for cash prizes. Bruce Gross also took pictures of the party. ![]() |
