Hello Everyone !

What is up with WRAD, Inc? PLENTY!

First of all some of you would like to know what WRAD is? It used to be called the World Recreation Association of the Deaf but now it is more than that. We provide different services including fun activities for the deaf and hard of hearing community worldwide and our primary office is in Palmdale, California in Southern California, USA. For more information about WRAD, you can go to our website at www.wrad.org.

As you know our big event is on Saturday October 14th at the Six Flags Magic Mountain near Los Angeles from 10am until 10pm and we are selling tickets now for only $24 per person. You can purchase tickets online at www.wrad.org or request flyers from us and we will mail them to you. Our email address is wradceo@aol.com and we have a videophone/ FAX and our number is 661-943-8879. Hope to see you at Magic Mountain for a great turnout of our deaf and hard of hearing community and their friends and families. We have had our event at Magic Mountain for many years now but this year is different as they have a Frightfest attraction for Halloween since we have it in October. Everyone is welcome to our event at the amusement park. Sign Language interpreters are available for some of the shows there.

Summer is almost over and if you are in Southern California, we have planned a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day at Santa Monica Beach on Labor Day, September 4th. Meet us at Lifeguard Station #26 ( Near Ocean Beach Blvd and Ocean Avenue) that is close to everything including beach parking, restroom facilities, food vendors, volleyball nets and walking to the world famous Venice Beach. Be sure to bring a beach umbrella and plenty of sun lotion to prevent you from getting a bad sunburn. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Parking for a fee at the beach or try to find free parking nearby if you are lucky and come early. We will be there from 10am until 4pm. For your information, we just had another beach party with Tri-County GLAD last weekend at Marina Park in Ventura, California and it was a success so we are looking forward to having the event at Santa Monica on Labor Day.

Don't forget to attend the Grove at Farmer's Market in Los Angeles ( near Fairfax and 3rd Street) this Friday, September 1st as we go there once a month on the first Friday of the month. The Grove has many fine stores and restaurants including many food vendors at Farmer's Market. We meet at the Coffee Bean next to the big Farmer's Market Tower Clock between 6pm and 9pm. After that many of us go to nightclubs.

Last month I had a great time visiting Israel as well as Berlin, Germany, and Budapest Hungary and just finished writing a story about my trip in Israel in the WRAD website. You can read my story if you go to www.wrad.org and click the Tel Aviv Israel button. You will also see some of the pictures of Israel. I am now writing another story about my visit to Berlin, Germany to attend the International Deaf History Conference and it will be posted on the WRAD website soon. Enjoy reading them.

We continue to have more exciting events coming up in Southern California in September including Deafestival on September 30th in Van Nuys as WRAD is one of the sponsors, as well as a deaf disco event at the Loft in Hollywood on Saturday September 9th, and other local events like pizza nights, dining at Baja Fresh and Souplantation, and more. They can be found if you go to www.wrad.org or visit the Ohsoez website at www.ohsoez.com.

We just added a new event for us to go to the Hooters Sports Bar, 6922 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, California on Friday September 22nd from 8pm until closing as we have a private room upstairs for our gathering. It is a nice sports bar/ restaurant and here are more details from the website: Waitresses in orange, '70s track shorts serve up beer and pub grub at this proudly "tacky yet unrefined" sports bar-restaurant. Tables are packed with men of all ages, from high-powered suits to college guys in baseball caps. While salads, sandwiches and shellfish are on the menu, most folks order chicken wings--available in six levels of spice intensity, from mild to super-hot 911. Women are also welcome.

Speaking of the WRAD website, we just had a new facelift and it looks great. You can visit it at www.wrad.org and let us know what you think.

Hope to see you in our upcoming activities!!!!!

Recreationally yours,
Bruce Gross
