![]() Dear Friends in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community: Spring is here and we are looking forward to providing more recreational activities in the deaf and hard of hearing community. We do not have Chapters but this is not a problem because we welcome affiliates from different organizations. We already have some affiliates working with us and we are excited to have more of them as long as they are open-minded and do not discriminate against anyone. Have you visited our website, www.wrad.org lately? Hats off to Rey Llarena for doing a good job as the WRAD Webmaster and the Vice President. The Slide Show at the website is awesome and we hope you have seen them to date. This coming weekend I will be playing racquetball at the National Racquetball Tournament for the Deaf in Fullerton, California and hope to see you there. It is NOT too late to sign up to play so if you want more information, you can go to www.nrad.org and click April 2006 to look up the tournament page. Deaf Nation Expo will happen this Saturday too in Pomona and we are preparing a dinner gathering between 6pm and 10pm at the Green Field Brazilian Restaurant in West Covina since it is half way between Deaf Nation Expo in Pomona and the Racquetball Tournament in Fullerton. If you wish to go to DeafNation Expo, you can visit their website at www.deafnation.org We would like to return to the beach this summer but we are NOT sure which beach you would like for us to gather on Sundays. In the recent past we gathered at Santa Monica Beach. Maybe this time we can still go to Santa Monica but move a little north of the Santa Monica Pier? We will let you know after we get comments from you where we will get together at the beach this summer. While on the subject of the beach, we will have our Bicycling event at Santa Monica Beach on Saturday May 20th and hope to see you there. Rey Llarena is the Chairperson of the Bicycling event. You can go to our website to get more information about this exciting event. We continue to have pizza fundraisers but some of our friends have asked us to host places that are healthier. They are right so we are working to host fundraisers at other locations like Souplantation and others. You will hear from us soon about our new fundraising locations in addition to our current pizza and coffee ones. We are happy to have been in operation for over 20 years now. It is time for us to have a vision for our future so we welcome comments from you about what we need to do in the future for the deaf and hard of hearing community. You can go to our website and click Our Mission so you will know who we are and what we do in the community. Have a great Spring and see you in our FUN activities!!! WRADly yours, |
